Harry Meeting Tigers Legend Freddie Tuilagi at Birstall RFC’s Presidents Day, May 2008
Harry playing with the aid of the Bioform purchased with money raised by Birstall RFC
The story of ‘Little Harry’
Harry Machin is a 3 year old boy with cerebral palsy. He is a happy little chap but finds it very hard to move his muscles in a normal way. Birstall Rugby Club recently made the decision to appoint Harry as the club’s good cause and attempt to raise money during the rugby season to help purchase some of the specialist equipment Harry needs to make life a little bit easier for both him and his parents. Harry is a growing lad and is getting heavier by the day. He cannot stand or walk on his own and needs constant one-to-one support.
The NHS only supply the basic equipment for his day-to-day needs and the specialist equipment he needs to help with his developing skills is very expensive. This season the club raised a fantastic £118.98p on the rodeo day and £220 on Presidents Day (this was raised from the tin collection on the two days and the raffle on the Sunday), making a grand total of £338.98p.
Harry’s parents asked if we could purchase a Bioform (pictured) which is a wedge that allows lateral support for Harry whilst keeping his arms flexed forward. This allows him to play with the toys put in front of him. The cost of the Bioform wedge was £347.58p and with a little more help we purchased it for him.
Harry’s parents would like to thank everybody who contributed towards the Bioform wedge.
THANK YOU BIRSTALL RUGBY CLUB!!!
